Madrid in Game concludes its presence at GDC San Francisco with three studios from its ecosystem among the eight best in the world
Madrid in Game has concluded its participation in the Game Developers Conference (GDC) in San Francisco with a major international recognition for its ecosystem: three studios linked to the initiative have been distinguished with the Best in Play award, which recognises the eight best independent games in the world showcased at the event. The award-winning studios were Kraken’s Den Studios, for Heartweaver; Red Mountain Games, for AlcheMice; and Vermila Studios, for Crisol: Theater of Idols, consolidating the international projection of Madrid’s talent at one of the leading global showcases for video game developers.
The Madrid delegation also had its own stand at the Moscone Center and included the participation of six companies from the Start IN Up Program: Kraken’s Den Studios, Red Mountain Games, HechicerIA, Frog Team, NAKAMA Game Studio and Sphere Studios. All of them presented their projects and work to developers, publishers, investors and other key players in the international industry. Red Mountain Games had a particularly prominent presence, as in addition to receiving the Best in Play recognition, it took part in the official GDC pitching sessions and was selected for the Xsolla Scholarship 2026, an international scholarship awarded to only 45 studios.
Madrid in Game’s presence at GDC formed part of its internationalisation strategy, aimed at projecting the capital’s video game ecosystem as a benchmark hub for video game development and publishing. The recognitions obtained by Heartweaver, AlcheMice and Crisol: Theater of Idols have provided significant endorsement for the international visibility of Madrid’s talent, as they represent a validation mark of particular relevance within the professional and business environment of the event. Through this, Madrid has strengthened its presence in one of the sector’s main global markets and consolidated its positioning as one of Europe’s emerging video game hubs.
